Website Mistakes That Cost Clinics Appointments

Many clinic websites look fine but lose patients quietly. Ten common mistakes and how to fix each one.

A clinic website has one main job: help a patient who is interested take the next step. Many sites look professional but quietly lose patients. Here are ten common mistakes, and how to fix them.

1. The phone number is hard to find

Patients on a phone want to call or message. Put a tap-to-call number and a WhatsApp button at the top of every page and keep them visible as people scroll.

2. It is slow on a phone

Most patients visit on mobile, often on patchy connections. Large images and heavy sliders make pages slow. Compress images, remove what is not needed and test on a real phone.

3. No page for each main treatment

A single "Services" page listing twenty treatments does not answer anyone’s questions. Give each important treatment its own page, explaining who it is for, what happens, recovery and cost.

4. Doctors are just names

Patients choose doctors. Each doctor needs a profile with a real photo, qualifications, experience, special interests and timings.

5. No mention of cost

Patients want to know if they can afford it before calling. Typical ranges or "consultation from" prices filter in the right patients and build trust.

6. Too many steps to book

Long forms with many required fields put people off. Ask only for name, phone and what they need. Offer a choice: call, WhatsApp or form.

7. Nobody replies

The website works, but the enquiry sits unread. Make sure every form reaches someone who replies quickly, ideally within the hour during clinic hours. Our article on why reply time wins enquiries explains why this matters so much.

8. Missing practical details

Address, map, parking, timings, insurance accepted, languages spoken. These small details decide whether patients choose you over the clinic down the road.

9. No proof of trust

Reviews, accreditations, years of experience, the number of patients treated (if accurate). Show them clearly, without exaggerating.

10. No tracking

Without tracking, you cannot tell which pages bring appointments. Set up analytics to count calls, WhatsApp clicks and form enquiries, and look at it monthly.

A quick self-test

Open your website on your phone and pretend you are a patient with a problem you treat. Can you, within one minute:

  • Find the right treatment page?
  • Understand roughly what it costs?
  • See who will treat you?
  • Call or message the clinic in one tap?

If not, you have found where patients are leaving. Then check what patients look at before booking to see the full picture.

Quick answers

Do clinics need online booking? It helps, especially for routine appointments, but WhatsApp and a quick phone reply work well for many patients.

How often should a clinic website be updated? Check doctors, timings and prices monthly. Add or improve a treatment page every month or two.

Should we use a template or a custom site? A good template can work for a small clinic. Larger clinics and hospitals usually benefit from a site built around their treatments and patient journeys.

The takeaway

Most clinic websites lose patients through small, fixable problems: hidden contact details, slow pages, missing information and slow replies. Fix them, then measure what brings appointments.
